Mayor Ed Lee and the Board of Supervisors,
I appreciate your recent decision to reduce cutbacks to the team of city arborists that cares for San Francisco’s street trees.
At the same time, I firmly believe there is a better solution regarding the health of city trees than for City Hall to relinquish their care.
Within a year Friends of the Urban Forest, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works, will produce recommendations for viable, affordable alternatives to relinquishment.
In the meantime, I urge you to support tree care in any further budget decisions this year and minimize the deterioration of our urban forest until a better solution is found!
The city invested great effort and expense to purchase and plant trees all around San Francisco. To relinquish their care now would be short-sighted and sacrifice all the benefits of mature trees: cleaning the air, beautifying the city, raising property values, preventing sewer flooding.
Please minimize the damage until a solution can be found!
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME AND NEIGHBORHOOD HERE
