Character: Evergreen; irregular, upright form, dense canopy.
Size: Medium (Height: 20-35'; Spread: 10-20').
Growth: Slow.
Foliage: Dark green, glossy, narrow leaves, 4" long. New foliage is light green.
Flower: Insignificant flowers.
Fruit: Insignificant fruit.
Bark: Rough, gray bark.
Monthly Watering Needs: 15-20 gallons per week for the first 2 years; 15-20 gallons twice a month for the 3rd year; as needed after 3 years (varies by soil, sun, and wind conditions).
Tree Care: Low. Early pruning needed to establish and maintain a central leader, and to develop good branch structure; pruning needed less frequently with age. Some pest control may be needed.
Tolerances: Sandy soil, moderate winds, fog, smog, dense shade or sun.
Special Considerations: Needs good drainage. Can be susceptible to aphids, scale and sooty mold.
Notable Traits: Native to Eastern Africa. Good tree for 2x3' basins and narrow sidewalks. Successful in shady spots.
