Character: Evergreen; round form; moderate canopy.
Size: Medium (Height: 25-35'; Spread: 25').
Growth: Slow to Moderate.
Foliage: Gray-green, smooth, narrow leaves, 2-3" long.
Flower: Insignificant flowers.
Fruit: "Fruitless" varieties used for street trees.
Bark: Smooth, light gray bark becomes gnarled as tree matures.
Monthly Watering Needs: 15-20 gallons per week for the first 2 years; 15-20 gallons twice a month for the 3rd year; as needed after 3 years (varies by soil, sun, and wind conditions).
Tree Care: Moderate. Early pruning needed to train a good shape; pruning needed less frequently with age. Occasional removal of suckers.
Tolerances: Drought (once established), any soil, salt air, gusty or cold winds, fog.
Special Considerations: Prefers sun. Can irritate allergies. Some "fruitless" varieties bear a little fruit. Prefers good drainage.
Notable Traits: Native to the Mediterranean. A tough street tree. Commonly planted variety 'Majestic Beauty' bears virtually no fruit.
