Golden Rain Tree

Character: Deciduous; eventually flat-topped form; light canopy.
Size: Medium (Height: 20-30'; Spread: 20-30').
Growth: Slow.
Foliage: Medium green, serrated leaves with oval leaflets 1-3" long. New foliage is reddish. Fall foliage is yellow; tree is bare October-February.
Flower: Late summer yellow flower clusters 8-14" long, bloom June-August.
Fruit: Buff colored, 2" papery seed capsules.
Monthly Watering Needs: In general, 15-20 gallons per week for the first 2 years; 15-20 gallons twice a month for the 3rd year; as neededorange, red, or salmon-colored papery seed capsules. after 3 years (varies by soil, sun, and wind conditions).
Tree Care: Moderate. Needs early pruning to train a good shape, pruning less frequently with age. Sidewalk clean-up during flower and leaf drop.
Tolerances: Drought (once established), poor drainage, any soil, smog, temperature extremes.
Special Considerations: Prefers sun and warmth, does not tolerate fog or steady winds. Needs extra water in hot conditions.
Notable Traits: Native to Asia. Attractive papery fruit capsules.
